Dragonwilds Spell List — Every Spell and What It Does

The complete RuneScape: Dragonwilds spell list — every combat and utility spell, its rune costs, and which spells earn a permanent slot on your bar.
Dragonwilds' spellbook is the game's multi-tool: the same magic that shatters ore nodes also ends boss phases. The list has grown across updates into dozens of spells across two families — combat and utility — all burning rune essence from your altar. This page catalogues them all and flags the ones that earn permanent bar slots.

How the spellbook works
Spells unlock through the quest chain (Rune Mysteries opens the book), the Rune Altar (which crafts their rune costs), and higher Magic levels (which unlock stronger entries). Every spell lists a rune cost — air, astral and the combat families — plus a stamina component on the physical ones. Damage spells scale with Magic; utility spells have fixed, generous effects.
Combat spells
The damage and control family — full tactics in the combat spells guide:
- Splinter — the offensive staple: a fast, reliable projectile that scales cleanly with Magic. Your first and longest-serving damage spell.
- Confuse — turns one enemy against its friends; the cheap answer to tight packs.
- Snare — roots a target in place; the boss-fight and swarm-management workhorse.
- Greater Confuse — Confuse's promotion for denser rooms.
- Vengeance — the late-game crowd cleaver; area damage that answers everything the endgame throws in numbers.
- Ultimate Burst — the heavy nuke; a cooldown-limited devastation button for phase transitions and emergencies.
- Tempest Shield — a defensive aura that punishes attackers; the melee-mage's second skin.
- Spectral Arrows — conjured ammunition for bow users; the ranger's essence budget.
- Elemental weapon enchants (Enchant Weapon: Air / Fire / Water) — the Mystic Forge's combat cousins, layering elemental damage onto steel.
- Fire Spirit / Infernal Rod — the fire school's damage line — devastating against the undead, wasted on bosses that ignore burn (check the boss hub first).
Utility spells
The family that saves hours — full write-ups in the utility spells guide:
- Rocksplosion — detonates ore nodes remotely: mining as casting. The most time-saving spell in the game.
- Superheat — smelts ore in the field; the Furnace that travels.
- Windstep — a dash across gaps; traversal spell, escape button, and the reason vault shortcuts exist.
- Windstomp — a ground slam that traverses and hurts; Windstep's heavier sibling.
- Surge — a burst movement spell for combat repositioning.
- Phase Dash — blink through danger; the late game's answer to arena pressure.
- Magical Mending — healing; the reason essence reserves are a survival item.
- Summon Shelter — conjures refuge in the wilds; weather and night protection on demand.
- Personal Chest — a portable stash; logistics magic for long expeditions.
- Recall — the return-home spell; the endgame's commute solution.
- Home Teleport — the free ride home; slower and more restricted than Recall, but always in the book.
Gathering and nature spells
- Axtral Projection — the rune-crafting lesson spell; the gateway taught in Rune Mysteries.
- Runes To Rune Essence — recycles surplus runes into raw essence; the economy's return valve.
- Summon Stone Spirits / Summon Elemental Spirits — gathering companions that work deposits alongside you; mining as delegation.
- Splinter (again) — the honest note that the damage staple doubles as a harvesting tool.
- Bark To Bones — the necromantic curiosity; converts wood to bone reagents.
- Bones to Peaches — the classic returns; converts bones into food. Emergency rations as a spell.
- Divine Rock / Accelerated Veins — resource-boosting cast for miners; the mining build's multipliers.
- Rapid Growth / Uproot / Trunk Totem / Humidify — the 1.0 farming and nature line: crop acceleration, tree management and water control for the homestead era.
- Fishing Frenzy / Fishnado — the Fishing skill's magic companions; the pantry, weaponized.
The permanent bar (community consensus)
Five spells that almost no veteran removes:
- Windstep — traversal and escape in one slot.
- Rocksplosion — every mining trip pays for its essence twice.
- Magical Mending — healing you control beats healing you hope for.
- Snare — the boss-fight budget: one root per phase, purchased cheap.
- Splinter (or your damage staple of choice) — because sometimes the dragon is close and the bow is empty.

Frequently asked questions
Do spells miss? Projectiles can — Splinter respects dodge rolls. Ground-targeted effects (barrages, Vengeance) punish position, not reflexes.
What unlocks spells besides levels? Quests — several spells are quest rewards or taught by mentors and effigies. The quest log is part of the spellbook; the side quests hub pays in magic more often than players expect.
How many spells should I actually use? Three to five per bar, swapped per activity. The book is a toolbox, not a rotation — Dragonwilds rewards specialists per trip, not generalists per fight.
