Complete walkthroughs for Dragonwilds' first three dragonkin vaults — Temple Woods, Bramblemead and Whispering Swamp, including guardians, traps and rewards.
Your first three dragonkin vaults — Crasorak Kara, Thishepen Kara and Vertentis Kara — are Dragonwilds' dungeon tutorial: power level 2, manageable guardians, and the trap families you'll meet for the rest of the game. They also pay two of the most important recipes in the early campaign. Here is each vault, in order, with the tactics that make them clean runs.

Before you enter any vault
The standard run kit (full checklist in the vaults overview):
- Full bronze kit, a ranged option, food to full plus one spare.
- Essence stocked for Windstep and one healing spell.
- A claimed bed outside the vault entrance — deaths respawn you at the door with a gravestone to recover.
Vault 1 — Crasorak Kara (Temple Woods)
Power level 2 · Guardians: Vault Overlord · Vermin: giant rats, goblin runts
Your first vault waits in Temple Woods, a short walk from the tutorial country. It's deliberately gentle:
- The entry halls teach the floor plan grammar — pillars, side alcoves, and the first pressure-plate spike traps. Walk slow; the plates telegraph with a raised lip.
- The rat warrens are your first swarm fight. Pull one pair at a time and mind the runts flanking.
- The Vault Overlord anchors the final hall — your first construct boss. It telegraphs heavy slams with a wind-up; circle during the recoveries and punish. Ranged and magic trivialize the approach.
Claim the vault cores on their pillars as you pass (typically three per vault) and loot the treasure chest for your first shard haul and recipe roll. Crasorak is where the habit forms: cores, chest, effigy, exit.
Vault 2 — Thishepen Kara (Bramblemead Valley)
Power level 2 · Guardians: Vault Archon · Vermin: giant rats
The valley's vault sits close to home and runs one tier tighter:
- Fire traps debut here — floor jets on timers. Watch the first cycle, then walk the gaps; the scorch marks mark safe lanes.
- The Archon patrols the mid-halls rather than waiting — expect an ambush pull near the second core. It fights like the Overlord with faster footwork; corridors are your friend.
- The treasure room sits behind the deepest hall; the chest's recipe roll makes this vault worth repeating for alts and shard farmers.
Vault 3 — Vertentis Kara (Whispering Swamp)
Power level 2 · Guardians: Plague King and Rat King · Vermin: giant rats
The swamp vault is the tutorial's graduation exam — two named monsters and the game's best early recipe:
- Poison mechanics arrive. Rot pockets and tainted pools dot the halls; fight clean, retreat cleaner, and keep the swamp's mist from stacking during long pulls.
- The Rat King holds court in the warren wings — a giant-rat swarm fight with a named centerpiece. AoE and control spells (Snare, Confuse) turn his court into a queue.
- The Plague King anchors the depths: a heavy, poison-afflicting brute. Kite his lunges, never trade in the pools, and burn him down from range.
- The prize: Vertentis Kara's effigy teaches the anti-dragon shield — the single most valuable early recipe in Dragonwilds, and the desert's price of admission later. Do not leave without it.
Route and pacing tips
- One vault per session early. Each run takes 30–60 minutes with looting; fatigue mistakes are how gravestones happen.
- Learn the guardian tells, not just health bars. The constructs' attack grammar repeats at every power tier — mastering the Overlord now makes the power-5 Overlords later feel familiar.
- Bank cores immediately. Cores feed progression systems at your base; carry them home, don't hoard them for "one more wing."
- Repeat for shards. Monsters and chests respawn on rotation; a farmed Crasorak is the safest early shard income in the game.
What these three vaults unlock
Beyond the recipes and shards, the first three vaults complete your literacy in everything the deeper track assumes: trap families, guardian grammar, core hunting, and the loot economy. Players who clear all three before pushing into Ghornfell consistently outpace players who skip them — the Ghornfell vaults assume every one of these lessons.
Frequently asked questions
Can I skip to Vertentis for the anti-dragon shield? Technically the vaults aren't hard-locked, but the shield recipe matters most in the desert; clearing the first two anyway takes one evening and pays recipes you'll want regardless.
Do I need anti-poison gear for Vertentis? No dedicated set exists for it — bring food, fight from range, and treat the pools as lava. Antipoison potions from the swamp's vendors help.
What's the fastest first-vault build? Bronze melee weapon, wooden shield, bow for pulls, and Rocksplosion runes for the rat packs. Simple, and it teaches the right habits.
