Materials Guide — Every Resource in Ashenfall and Where to Find It

The complete materials guide for RuneScape: Dragonwilds — wood, stone, ore, hides, fibers, desert reagents and vault-unique resources, with farming routes.
Every recipe in Dragonwilds is a shopping list, and Ashenfall is the shop. This guide organizes the game's materials by family and region, explains the conversions (what turns into what, at which station), and flags the resources worth farming before you leave each tier.

The material families
Wood and fiber
- Ash logs — the backbone: Construction, tools, campfires, arrows. Temple Woods never runs dry.
- Oak and higher-tier woods — the northern forests' heavier lumber; better construction and fletching components.
- Bloodwood sap — tapped from bloodwood trees with an iron logging axe; a quest-critical and crafting-critical reagent (the Dragon Slayer walkthrough needs one).
- Fiber — bushes and ground plants everywhere in the south; rope and cloth's first link.
Stone and clay
- Stone and boulders — everywhere; Construction and tooling.
- Clay — riverbed and swamp deposits (the Whispering Swamp and Vertentis Kara's halls carry clay nodes); feeds the Kiln and advanced construction. A common early wall: you need a stone processing bench before clay recipes open — if the station's locked, the main quest hasn't taken you there yet.
- Red cloth pads — the textile oddity new players hit mid-game: they're made at the Loom, not the Spinning Wheel; the recipe chain needs the loom upgrade first.
Metals
| Ore | Where | Becomes |
|---|---|---|
| Copper | Brynmoor hills and ruins | Bronze bars (with tin) |
| Tin | Brynmoor hills and ruins | Bronze bars (with copper) |
| Iron | Ghornfell — Fractured Plains veins and caves | Iron bars |
| Coal | Ghornfell mines, Coalridge Pass | Smelting fuel |
| Blurite | Takla Kara vault only | Special smithing lines |
Bronze is the first gear age (5 bars alone enter the Dragon Slayer checklist); iron is the northern passport. Smelt at the Furnace; the stations guide covers the chains.
Creature drops
- Hides and coarse fur — deer, wolves and worse; Tannery inputs and quest items.
- Raw meat and fish — the Cooking chain's raw stock; cook everything.
- Bones and reagents — undead components (Fellhollow drops) that the desert's alchemists and late recipes want.
- Dragon materials — teeth, scales and blood from the boss track; the endgame's rarest smithing inputs. The challenge horn alone eats a dragon tooth (see the Velgar guide).
Magic materials
- Rune essence — crystallized anima from geysers and nodes in every region; the spellbook's universal ammunition. Full economy in the Runecrafting guide.
- Vault cores and shards — dungeon-locked progression currency and crafting components; farm the cleared vaults.
Desert specialties (Umbral Sands)
The June 2026 update's desert brought its own economy:
- Desert reagents — heat-treated components for the region's alchemical recipes.
- Glass-line materials — the glass crafting chain (sand through processing) that the community initially found fiddly: the conversion runs through the desert's own stations, and the resulting components feed late-game construction and trinkets. Gather the raw sand at the dunes; process at the oasis settlement's benches.
- Mount materials — the desert herds and pyramid rewards tie into the mounts guide.
Farming routes that don't feel like farming
- The meadow loop (Brynmoor): one circuit of Bramblemead from any base — logs, stone, fiber, copper and tin nodes on the ridgelines. Forty minutes, a full chest.
- The vein run (Ghornfell): Ashien's Watch cave mouths and the fractured ridges; bring Rocksplosion and a large ore pouch.
- The vault circuit: cleared vaults respawn vermin, shards and regional nodes — the safest high-tier resource loop in the game.
- The oasis commute (Umbral Sands): water-to-water travel with sand, reagents and desert hunting folded into the hydration route.
Storage and management tips
- Chests by family — ores, wood, food, magic, gear; a labeled warehouse beats a treasure hunt.
- Bank before delving. Anything that drops on death stays home; carry trip-weight only.
- Never spend quest-critical stock. The game's checklists (23 ash logs here, 5 bronze bars there) are cheaper with a banked reserve.
- Stack conversion at home. Ore travels, bars bank; raw materials weigh less per bar after smelting — convert at base to double your hauls.
The weekly haul loop
Resource management scales on one habit: the scheduled haul. Once per session — typically before logging off — run a fixed loop through your current region's richest nodes and deposit everything at base, converted where conversion applies (ore to bars, fiber to thread). The loop takes twenty minutes and produces more than an hour of desperate mid-project foraging ever will. It also keeps the banked reserve topped: the ore stock that quest checklists eat, the essence reserve the spellbook drinks, and the food chest the kitchen refills. Players who haul on schedule stop noticing material costs at all — which is the entire point. The map knows where everything grows; the calendar just has to visit it.
Frequently asked questions
Where is clay? Riverbeds and the swamp, plus clay nodes inside Vertentis Kara. If the processing bench is still locked, advance the main quest — clay's chain opens with it.
How do I make red cloth pads? At the Loom (not the Spinning Wheel) once the cloth chain is unlocked — a common mid-game wall with a one-station fix.
Is blurite renewable? The Takla Kara deposit respawns with the vault rotation; it remains the game's only source, so the vault stays on every serious farmer's circuit.
