Imaru Guide — The Soul-Eater of Fellhollow's Tower

Complete Imaru the Soul-Eater boss guide — the three curse fragments, her tower in Hope's Fall, undead dragon mechanics and the anti-bleed loadout.

Imaru the Soul-Eater rules Fellhollow from her tower in Hope's Fall — an undead blue dragon steeped in underworld energy, keeper of the region's tragedy, and the far north's flagship boss. She is also, by every account, one of Dragonwilds' most haunting fights: a dragon who wanted children, got settlers instead, and lost everything twice. This guide covers her story, her seal, and the mechanics that break her.

Imaru's tower opens only to those who carry the curse fragments — and closes just as fast behind them.

Who Imaru is

Created by the dragonkin as a water dragon, Imaru was tempered where her kin raged — the water in her blood granted reason, patience and, uniquely among dragons, tenderness. The dragonkin's experiments denied her the one thing she wanted: offspring. So when human settlers reached Fellhollow, it was Imaru who persuaded her mate Xikotal to protect them — she saw in the fragile humans the children she could never have. The two dragons blessed the settlers, raised their cities, steadied their weather, and loved them.

What happened next turned Fellhollow into the haunted land you explore. Imaru drank from the River Noumenon — the underworld's current — and now rules the region as one of Queen Kuldra's generals: an undead soul-eater, wearing the bones of her own tragedy.

Step one: the three curse fragments

The tower's entrance is sealed by magic. Breaking it requires three curse fragments, scattered through Fellhollow — a treasure hunt that doubles as the region's guided tour. The fragments re-arm for each new boss attempt: if you've defeated Imaru and want a rematch, all three must be gathered again. Plan fragment runs into your loop; the Fellhollow guide maps the hunting grounds.

Beware the soul-rift

Outside her tower, Imaru enforces her domain one way: players who linger too long soul-rifting in the wild draw her personally. The mechanic is Fellhollow's leash — rift on a timer, and end your business before it runs out. If she arrives, the answer is the same as with all wild dragons: break line-of-sight, end the rift, and leave.

The fight: an undead dragon's grammar

Imaru fights like the scholar-dragon she was — patient, layered and punishing to greed:

  1. Undead endurance. Bleed, burn and poison — the tools that shred Fellhollow's lesser dead — do nothing here. She is the region's immunity wall: bring raw damage, air and earth magic, or plain steel sharpened well.
  2. Breath and sweep cycles. Her cone attacks cover arcs, her sweeps own the floor in front of her — the dragonkin-tower arena gives pillars for line-of-sight breaks. Treat the geometry as your second health bar.
  3. Soul mechanics. Fittingly for the Soul-Eater, her deeper phases play with your life force — drained vitality and summoned hate that punish players who stand in the open. Keep pillars between you and her during casts; the summons fall to the same fire tactics as her garrison.

Phase strategy

  • Opening (100–70%): Circulate the arena's edge, learning her turn radius. Ranged and magic chip damage only — her melee arc deletes overcommitted meleers.
  • Mid (70–35%): The soul phases begin. Prioritize adds the moment they spawn, break line-of-sight during her casts, and hold your burst for confirmed recovery windows.
  • Close (35–0%): She layers everything — breath into summons into sweeps. This is where stocked essence pays: a well-timed control spell or two buys the healing windows that finish the fight.

Loadout that wins

  • Fellhollow-tier armour (the lake vaults' recipes or better), shield optional.
  • No bleed, burn or poison enchants — all three are wasted slots. Air, earth and physical damage are the real currencies.
  • Control spells stocked — Snare and Confuse handle both adds and her recoveries.
  • Double food and full essence. The fragment run plus the fight is a long session; attrition is her quiet ally.

Rewards and what next

The first kill breaks Fellhollow's story open — her drops feed the endgame's crafting and the arc's next steps; repeat instances (fragments re-collected) farm her unique materials. With the Soul-Eater downed, the vault track's desert capstones (Umbral pyramids) and the road to the Dragon Queen's wilderness open in earnest.

Frequently asked questions

Can I skip the fragments with a group? No — the seal is per-instance and the fragments are per-player. The treasure hunt is the toll; budget an evening.

Melee viable against her? Yes, inside her recovery windows and behind her sweep arcs. But her melee reach punishes greed — most kills come from ranged cores with melee cleanup.

What's the single best prep item? Re-enchanted weapons. Arriving with burn or bleed builds is how teams discover immunities the expensive way.
